The DJI Mini 3 is a slightly “stripped down” version of the Mini 3 Pro but with a couple of notable differences, the first being a slightly longer flight time and the second being a much lower price.
Note: Like pervious Mini versions, the Mini 3 falls under the 250g weight threshold set by Transport Canada, meaning you aren’t required to go through the process of registering it or obtaining a drone pilot license in order to legally to fly it in Canada.
Like the Mini 3 Pro, the Mini 3 captures 4K HDR video, however, still images are captured at 12MP rather than the 48MP maximum the Pro version can capture.
As with the Pro model, true Vertical Shooting with the drone’s camera is also available, rotating the camera 90 degrees to capture content in a vertical aspect ratio.
The Type 1/1.3 CMOS sensor, featuring pixels as large as 2.4 μm, and fixed f/1.7 aperture lens work together to greatly improve low light performance.
It also utilizes dual-native ISO and uses on-chip HDR for capturing images with wide dynamic ranges and HDR video at up to 4K/30.
The Mini 3 camera is also capable of “large-angle tilt” allowing for a variety of different compositions, and boasts 2x digital zoom for 4K/30 video, 4x zoom for 1080p video, and 2x zoom when capturing 12MP photos.
Maximum flight time depends on the battery being used. Under ideal conditions and with the standard battery fitted, a flight time of up to 38 minutes can be achieved. With the optional Intelligent Flight Battery Plus fitted, maximum flight time jumps up to 51 minutes.
The Mini 3 uses the GMSS satellite systems to navigate and utilizes a downward sensing system to provide incredibly accurate hovering and stability while in the air.
DJI says that the Mini 3 is able to hold a constant hover in wind speeds of up to 10.7 meters per second (38.5 kilometers per hour) and still be able to capture steady images.
DJI’s fantastic auto-programmed QuickShots including Dronie, Helix, Rocket, Circle, and Boomerang are also available allowing you to create helicopter-style inspired cinema shots.
It also features multiple Return To Home (RTH) modes, including Smart RTH, Low Battery RTH, and Failsafe RTH.
The Mini 3 is available in several different versions including as a stand alone unit without a controller, as well as different Fly More Combos that come with either the RC-N1 Remote Controller or top-end RC remote (pictured above) as well as accessories including extra propellers, batteries, cables and carrying bag.
