The Sennheiser EW-DP is a new wireless portable microphone system designed for filmmakers and video professionals, that Sennheiser is calling the digital successor to their existing G4 portable series.
The system utilizes Evolution Wireless (hence the EW in the name) which operates in the UHF spectrum and is known for its reliability, flexibility, and comprehensive feature set.
It is a customizable, fully digital UHF system offering 134dB of dynamic range, a bandwidth of up to 56MHz, low latency of 1.9ms and integrated Bluetooth for synchronization and control of various functions.
The complete system includes a portable transmitter (available in different variants), a portable receiver as well as a wireless handheld and/or Lavalier microphone.

Designed with ergonomics in mind, Sennheiser says that the mechanical design, as well as every button, connection, and component was “thoughtfully considered for the best user experience possible.”
The receivers are magnetically stackable and feature a front-facing OLED display allowing for “ease and flexibility” when mounting the receiver, while offering “optimal visibility regardless of placement, angle, or light”.
It also utilizes an equidistant tuning grid (previously only found in Sennheiser’s flagship Digital 6000 and Digital 9000 wireless systems) allowing frequencies to be equally spaced every 600 kHz alongside each other.
The system is scalable up to 90 separate channels, thanks to it’s 56MHz of tunable bandwidth, and will automatically scan through the available bandwidth to secure the most reliable signal available.
Users can also fine tune the system by manually selecting one of the 2,240 frequencies available to them.
The system can be powered via primary-cells, lithium-ion rechargeable battery packs (sold separately) which offer up to 12 hours of operation or direct power via USB-C.
The EW-DP also features automatic troubleshooting, offering smart notifications that provide helpful prompts for common errors that might occur when setting up or operating the EW-DP.
These include prompts to lower the gain if audio is clipping, low battery warnings, blocked frequency warnings, transmitter and receiver linking issues and muted transmitters.
Finally, the EW-D Smart Assist app (available for iOS and Android devices) provides automated setup, operation, and monitoring via Bluetooth, auto frequency coordination for up to 16 systems, remote access to system settings and a support hub with video tutorials and detailed manuals.
