The Sony ECM-B10 is a multi-directional, camera mounted shotgun microphone that features digital signal processing using beamforming technology and offers three switchable directivities, (super-directional, unidirectional and omnidirectional) combining three different mic options in one compact body.
When set to super-directional the microphone picks-up sounds from a narrow field directly in front while supressing sound from other directions.
When using the unidirectional sensitivity setting sound is supressed from behind, but it picks-up sounds from a wide field in front of the microphone, while the omni-directional sensitivity setting picks up sound from all directions.
The ECM-B10 utilizes Sony’s proprietary signal processing algorithms to enable noise reduction as well as directivity while converting analogue sound to digital within the microphone body itself.

Thanks to these digital signal processing algorithms, Sony says the ECM-B10’s noise cut filter is very effective at reducing extraneous ambient noises, while simultaneously maximizing audio quality at the recording stage, ultimately creating a more efficient post-production workflow with less audio edits.
The ECM-B10 features a cableless design that when mounted on a camera with a Multi Interface (MI) Shoe that supports a digital audio interface, can transmit audio directly as a digital signal, delivering high-quality sound without any degradation.
The MI shoe connection also provides power to the microphone eliminating the need for additional batteries.
Microphone controls including audio levels, pickup pattern, filters and other functions are conveniently located on the rear panel.
It also features a shock and vibration suppression system that helps to suppress low-frequency vibration noises.
Finally, the microphone includes a detachable fur-tyle wind screen to reduces wind noise when shooting outdoors as well as a dust and moisture resistant body design.
