This year’s Wakefield International Film Festival (WIFF) – an annual event that presents current and award-winning documentaries from Québec, Canada and around the world – reported an incredible turnout and even set new attendance records.
The festival’s inaugural WIFF Best of Fest award was awarded to Rafea: Solar Mama. The film follows a Bedouin woman, Rafea, who leaves her Jordanian village and travels to India to attend the Barefoot College, where illiterate women from around the world are trained to be solar engineers. This award, determined by audience voting, carries a cash prize of $500, which will be given to the film’s directors Jehane Noujaim and Mona Eldaief.
