OCAD awarded its coveted Gold Medal – given to the Year’s Most Outstanding Photographer – to Meryl McMaster at the school’s annual awards ceremony held this past May 6, 2010.
For her portfolio – which explores such diverse topics as identity, representation, perception, myth & memory – McMaster takes home a $1500 scholarship from Vistek.
“Ancestral” explores the idea of heritage through a combination of portraits and self-portraits.
“Second Self” reconsiders identity through portraiture by incorporating drawing and sculpture.
“In-Between Worlds” explores the mixing and transforming of bi-cultural identities – Aboriginal and Euro-Canadian.
