Panasonic GH6 firmware update adds external ProRes RAW recording

The latest firmware update (ver. 2.0) for the Panasonic GH6 adds the ability to record Apple ProRes RAW externally on the ATOMOS Ninja V and Ninja V+ (running the latest AtomOS 10.77 firmware).

In addition, the update adds internal 4K DCI or FHD at up to 60p in ProRes 422 HQ/ProRes 422 as well as expanded and improved compatibility with the  DJI RS 2 and DJI RSC 2 gimbals.

Once updated, the new firmware enables the ability to output RAW video data at up to 5.8K / 29.97p and 4K DCI / 119.88p over HDMI that can then be recorded as Apple ProRes RAW using the Atomos NINJA V or NINJA V+ monitor/recorders.

It also provides the ability to record internally in 4K DCI or FHD in ProRes 422 HQ/ProRes 422 using the following recording modes:

• C4K 59.94p, 50p, 29.97p, 25p, 24p, 23.98p
• FHD 59.94p, 50p, 29.97p, 25p, 24p, 23.98p

Panasonic has also provided free access to a Lookup Table (LUT) designed for RAW video recorded on the Ninja V/Ninja V + that they say will make it easier to colour match additional footage recorded on their Varicam and EVA1 cameras.

RAW video data output over HDMI

• [5.7K] / [C4K] / [Anamorphic (4:3) 5.8K] / [Anamorphic (4:3) 4.4K] 12-bit RAW video data can be output over HDMI to ATOMOS NINJA V and NINJA V+ devices, to be recorded as Apple Pro Res RAW.
  • All functions may not be available depending on the situation.
  • NINJA V+ supports all RAW video data. NINJA V does not support some RAW video data.
  • Software that supports Apple ProRes RAW is required to edit RAW video recorded with NINJA V/V+.
  • A LUT (Lookup table) exclusively designed for RAW video is available on the following customer support website to make the same color grading as V-Log/V-Gamut.
