Sony has released a pair of firmware updates, one for the Alpha 1 camera and the other, a relatively minor update, for the Alpha a7S III camera.
Sony Alpha 1 Firmware Update ver. 1.30
The big news about this update is the addition of 8K 4:2:2 10bit recording and Lossless Compressed RAW for still images.
For photographers, the update adds Lossless Compressed RAW files in S, M, and L (small, medium, or large) file sizes.
Selecting the L size option retains the same image quality as an uncompressed RAW format, but with a significantly reduced file size, while the M and S size options record fewer pixels, providing more manageable RAW files.
Users will also be able to combine JPEG and their choice of Lossless Compressed RAW sizes based on their particular needs at the time.
