Atomos Ninja Phone & Sun Dragon lights announced

Atomos has announced two new products, the Sun Dragon,  a 5-colour HDR LED production strip light and the Ninja Phone, “a 10-bit video co-processor designed for use with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Ninja Phone

The Ninja Phone is a small portable unit consisting of a phone case and processing unit that will encodes a connected camera’s HDMI signal to 10-bit ProRes or H.265 allowing the footage to be viewed on a compatible iPhone.

Encoded video is sent via the Ninja Phone’s USB-C output to the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, where Atomos’ A17 system-on-a-chip decodes the pure camera sensor image allowing it to be displayed on the iPhone’s high-resolution OLED screen.

In order to ensure a seamless user experience, Atomos has also developed the Ninja Phone app.

The app serves as the control center for both the Ninja Phone and the iPhone, allowing users to adjust settings, transfer files, and even shoot in 9:16 portrait mode for social media content

The Ninja Phone offers multiple power options to ensure long-lasting performance including standard NP series batteries, a battery eliminator, or a USB-C 5V/3A input.

Finally, Atomos Cloud Services (ACS) is also available to Ninja Phone users offering camera to cloud workflows, remote live production capabilities, and cloud editing.

Sun Dragon

The Sun Dragon is being touted as the “world’s first 99% sun spectrum-accurate HDR LED production lights in LED strip form”, offering “unparalleled versatility and performance” for filmmakers and content creators alike.

It’s ultra-dense 5-colour (red, green, blue, amber, and white) LED lights and unique, malleable design will allow filmmakers to adapt the lighting to suit just about any set or live event application, both indoors and outdoors.

With a CRI (Colour Rendering Index) of approximately 99 and a TCLI (Television Lighting Consistency Index) of 98, the lights can faithfully reproduce colors, virtually eliminating the need for post-production corrections.

The 5m (16ft) long Sun Dragon strip delivers an incredibly bright 2000 lumens end to end, and features wired DMX and ethernet and wireless RF, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity for control and configuration.

The active controller features a large display, allowing for easy adjustment of key settings such as brightness, colour, and hue.

It also features integrated compatibility with other Atomos AirGlu RF devices, including the new Ninja Phone, allowing the lights to be controlled directly from a connected device.

Each Sun Dragon comes with a spiral carry case, metal mounting options on the rear, and magnetic removable diffuser covers allowing for more traditional light panel use and can be battery or mains powered.

Finally, the Sun Dragon is fully water-resistant, dust proof and waterproof to a depth of one meter.
