Two new wide-angle lenses have been added to Canon’s RF lens line-up, the RF24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM and the RF15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM.
RF24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM
Canon’s new RF24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM lens is a full-frame, large-diameter, wide-angle fixed focal length lens offering fantastic low-light capabilities and depth-of-field allowing you to capture bright, clear images with beautiful bokeh.
Featuring a minimum focus distance of just 0.14m (5.5in) and a maximum magnification of 0.5x (half life size) you will be able to get up close and personal with even the smallest of subjects.
In addition to it’s wide-angle of view, the RF24mm features a built-in STM motor that Canon says tracks focus with natural movement.
There are 5.5 stops of in-lens optical image stabilization that when mounted on an ROS R Series camera, such as the EOS R3 or EOS R5, it jumps to 6.5 thanks to camera in-body coordinated image stabilization..
Finally, Canon says that the RF24mm lens has been optimized for video use, with vlogging and social media content creation applications in mind.
RF 24mm Key Features
- Fast f/1.8 maximum aperture for great control over depth of field and bokeh, low-light shooting, and video recording, with fast and reliable autofocus.
- Excellent image quality: highlights include a UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element, one aspheric element, and Canon SSC (Super Spectra Coating) to help minimize ghosting and flare.
- Minimum focus distance of approx. 5.5 In./0.14 m; close-up magnification 0.5x at minimum focus distance.
- Optical image stabilization — up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction. Up to 6.5 stops Coordinated IS when paired with EOS R series cameras featuring In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS).
- Dedicated, programmable Control Ring with click-stop operation.
- Equivalent to approximately 38mm coverage when used on cameras with APS-C size image sensors. Impressively compact and light at only 0.6 lbs/270g.
- Circular (9 blades) aperture for beautiful, soft backgrounds.
RF15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM
The RF15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens is an ultra wide-angle full-frame zoom lens which Canon says was designed for a variety of image-capturing moments such as dynamic landscapes and natural snapshots.
Like the new RF24mm, the RF15-30 also has macro capabilities, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.28m (11.0in) and a maximum magnification of 0.52x when at the 15mm zoom position.
The lens also features up to 5.0 stops of in-lens optical image stabilization that jumps up to 7.0 stops when paired with an EOS R Series camera that features coordinated in-body image stabilization.
Like the RF24mm, the RF15-30mm features a built-in STM motor offering smooth, quiet video AF operation.
Finally, the RF15-30mm lens has also been optimized for video use, making it an extremely versatile lens for both still and video content creators.
RF16-30mm Key Features
- Equivalent to approximately 24–48mm coverage when used on cameras with APS-C size image sensors.
- Excellent image quality: highlights include two UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass elements, one aspheric element, and Canon SSC (Super Spectra Coating) to help minimize ghosting and flare.
- Optical Image Stabilization — up to 5.0 stops* of shake correction. Up to 7.0 stops of Coordinated IS when paired with EOS R series cameras featuring In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS).
- Equivalent to approximately 24–48mm coverage when used on cameras with APS-C size image sensors.
- Minimum focus distance of approx. 11 in./0.28m (5.1 In./0.13m in manual focus at 15mm zoom position.)
- Canon STM (stepping motor) focus drive, especially suited for smooth, quiet video AF operation.
- Impressively compact and light — approx. 0.9 lbs./390g.
