The new Nikon Coolpix P1100 follows in the footsteps of its groundbreaking predecessors, boasting incredible super-zoom capabilities, now with a few welcome tweaks.

It’s been quite a while since the original Coolpix P900 made its debut in 2015, followed by the launch of the next-gen P1000 in 2018, both shattering expectations with the incredible reach of their optical zoom (83x and 125x, respectively) and ability to capture images across vast distances.
In keeping with this legacy, the Coolpix P1100 range of focal lengths starts with the wide-angle 24mm equivalent and spans all the way to a whopping super-telephoto 3000mm equivalent. You can also enable the Dynamic Fine Zoom function to take this even farther, with up to a 250×2 zoom and an equivalent focal length of 6000mm.
To put this into perspective, that’s enough reach to get a clear shot of the surface of the moon. Distant birds, wildlife and sports are clearly no match for this camera. In fact, you can access dedicated bird-watching and moon modes directly on the mode dial to simplify this even further.

Additionally, there’s a selectable AF-area mode in bird-watching mode. And to help suppress camera shake when shooting handheld, Dual Detect Optical VR offers vibration reduction equivalent to four stops at the centre of the frame.
For those shooting video, the P1100 can capture 4K UHD/30p as well as superlapse movie recordings, with support for Clean HDMI output and an external microphone via a 3.5mm connector.
Despite its ability to traverse hefty distances, the compact P1100 weighs just 1,410g, delivering a super-telephoto shooting experience that’s more comfortable than what you’d get with many of today’s DSLR and mirrorless cameras.
