FUJIFILM X-H2: the world’s first 40-megapixel APS-C sensor

The FUJIFILM X-H2 features the world’s first 40-megapixel APS-C sensor, is capable of capturing 8K video and offers other powerful features for both stills and motion creatives.

Featuring an all-new X-Trans CMOS 5 HR BSI imaging sensor and X-Processor 5, the X-H2 is capable of producing images with incredible colour and detail and utilizes Pixel Shift Multi-Shot, an X Series first, to generate 160-megapixel images.

Video content creators will be excited to know that 8K/30p 10-bit 4:2:2 Apple ProRes footage can be recorded for up to 160 minutes internally via a CFExpress Type B card.

Footage can also be recorded in 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW to a compatible external monitor/recorder such as an Atomos Ninja V/V+  or Blackmagic Video Assist via the Type A HDMI socket.

Adding even more flexibility, FUJIFILM’s (sold separately) VFT-XH File Transmitter grip can be attached to the camera and used to access Remote Rec, providing the ability to control up to four cameras simultaneously.

In addition to the Remote Rec function, the grip also adds tethering connections and FTP file transfer through Wi-Fi, Ethernet and smartphone connections.

The X-H2 offers seven-stops of In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) system, black-out free continuous shooting up to 15fps (mechanical shutter), a top shutter speed of 1/180,000 and up to 13+ stops of dynamic range (when recording in F-Log2) .

Its native 8K video resolution provides filmmakers several ways of unlocking the true potential of the X-H2, from being able to increase the focal length of any lens with the camera’s 2x digital zoom, (when recording up to 4K), to the ability to down sample its 8K footage to deliver super high quality 4K video.

As mentioned earlier, the X-H2 as the ability to record continuously for up to 160 minutes at 25°C (77°F), which can be extended to up to 240 minutes by mounting the (sold separately) FAN-001 cooling fan to the back of the camera.

The X-H2 is also the first X Series to feature Pixel Shift Multi-Shot, (previously exclusive to the GFX series), to create 160-megapixel images.

For those unfamiliar, Pixel Shift Multi-Shot works by capturing a series of 20 frames, while shifting the sensor by 0.5 pixels between each one with the results being automatically combined into a single DNG RAW file.

The camera body supports wireless image transfer via the Fujifilm Remote Camera App and can be used with FUJIFILM’s X Webcam software to natively deliver webcam live streaming resolutions of up to 4K/60p.

The X-H2 body also features a USB Type-C connector, HDMI Type A port, two 3.5mm stereo mini connectors, (one for a mic and the other for headphones), a remote release connector and multifunction shoe.

There is a 3.0″ vari-angle LCD touchscreen on the back as well as a 0.5″, 5.76 million dot EVF with approximately 100% coverage.

In terms of battery life, users should be able to capture up to 720 still images or up to 70 minutes of 8K footage (90 min for HD) on a full charge.
