Introducing the new Panasonic Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3

The Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 weighs just 155g and measures only 40.9mm.

Introducing the new Panasonic Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3, the world’s smallest and lightest AF compatible interchangeable zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. First revealed at the Shanghai Photographic Equipment Exhibition in August 2024, the lens has finally been released to the wider world.

With a portable easy-to-carry form factor, it’s perfectly suited to the Lumix S9, the full-featured 24MP full-frame compact camera launched last year, capable of recording 4K and 6K video with powerful image stabilization, flexible open-gate framing and a revolutionary Real Time LUT function.

Mounted on the S9, or any compatible L-mount full-frame mirrorless camera, the Lumix S 18-40mm creates a slender and unobtrusive pocketable profile. This tiny lens weighs just 155g and measures only 40.9mm (when retracted) from its tip to the base side of the lens mount. And it’s an interesting addition to the growing number of L mount Lumix S series of lenses.

The Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 zoom is a perfect match for the S9.

The unique 18-40mm focal length opens up a healthy range of shooting possibilities. The 18mm ultra-wide end is ideal for capturing expansive landscapes. At the standard 40mm focal length, it’s perfect for shooting everyday snapshots, portraits and other subjects with a nice natural perspective. Combined with the Hybrid Zoom function on the Lumix S9, the zoom range extends to 120mm.

For those shooting video, rest assured: the lens incorporates the high-quality performance you’d expect from Lumix, with effective focus-breathing suppression to boot.

The front element uses a fluorine coating to repel water and oil, and the dust-, splash- and freeze-resistant exterior means you can shoot with confidence just about anywhere, anytime.
