The new Nikkor Z 14-30mm S lens is an ultra-wide-angle lens designed specifically for their new Z mount full-frame mirrorless camera bodies and is what Nikon is calling “the world’s first full-frame filter attachable lens.”
The big news is of course, that the lens itself, will accept various types 82mm screw-on filters, something that has never been featured on an ultra-wide-angle lens before.
It also boasts a new optical formula that utilizes four Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements and four aspherical elements that will help to control distortion and chromatic aberration and features Nikon’s anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat to reduce ghosting and flare.
Size wise, the lens measures around 3.5-inches long when retracted and weighs in at 485g which Nikon says is approximately 28.6% lighter and 32% shorter than their AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR lens, and approximately 51.5% lighter and 35% shorter than their AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8 ED F mount lens.
The Nikkor Z 14-30mm is also full compatible with In-Camera 5-Axis VR like that found on the Z 6 and Z 7 mirrorless cameras providing up to an extra 5-stops of image stabilization when shooting still and video, without adding to the size and weight of the lens.
