Lenses in this focal range are ideal for sports and wildlife photographers looking to get as close to the action as possible, yet stay far enough away so as to not be disruptive to their subjects.
Sony went with an optical design that features 22 lens elements in 16 groups, including a Super ED and two ED glass elements to battle chromatic aberration, the FE 100-400mm promises edge-to-edge sharpness throughout the zoom and focus range as well as “beautiful rendered ‘bokeh’.”
The lens also features their Nano AR coating to help reduce any unwanted reflections.
The weather sealed lens also features built-in optical stabilization, a double linear motor and a Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor (SSM) actuator that allows for precise and quiet focusing.
Finally, the FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Super Telephoto Zoom is going to be a fantastic lens when paired with any E-Mount Sony camera, but when combined with the Sony’s new a9 camera, it going to blow people’s minds!
