Originally announced back in February, the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD lens is a full-frame, compact, large aperture, ultra wide-angle zoom lens that Tamron is calling the smallest in its class.
Designed specifically for Sony E-Mount mirrorless cameras, the new lens features a filter diameter of 67mm, weighs only 420 g (14.8 oz) and measures 99mm (3.9 in) in length.
The optical design is made up of 13 lenses, in 11 groups that feature 3 aspherical elements, 2 LD (Low Dispersion) and 1 XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens elements to suppress chromatic aberration.
The AF drive system is powered by the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit that provides high-speed, high-precision and extremely quiet operation.
The minimum object distance at the 17mm wide position is 0.19m / 7.5 in and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:5.2, while at the 28mm end, the lens can achieve a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6 with a minimum object distance of 0.26m / 10.2 in.
