Nikon Announces New Full-Frame 70-300mm Telephoto Zoom Lens

Nikon has introduced a modernized version of its popular line of full-frame zoom lenses with their announcement of the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR, telephoto zoom lens.

The new 70-300 mm is Nikon’s first full-frame lens to feature an integrated stepping motor. Nikon’s decision integrate a stepping motor makes sense, as it provides not only faster, but also quieter AF performance, making it a more attractive option for video shooters in addition to photographers.

“This latest lens reaffirms Nikon’s commitment to giving FX-format shooters of all levels the unparalleled quality of NIKKOR glass, with the benefits of our latest optical technologies.” – Amanda Mohammed, Manager, Communications and Nikon Professional Services, Nikon Canada Inc.

Another feature that will appeal to video shooters is the electronic diaphragm, which provides smoother exposure transitions when shooting video and consistent exposures when shooting stills at a fast frame rate.

The enhanced Vibration Reduction (VR) offers up to 4.5 stops* of stabilization which is great for low light or handheld shooting situations and there are two VR modes to choose from. Normal VR or Sport VR which offers extra stabilization when shooting on the move.

*Based on CIPA Standard. This value is achieved when FX-format compatible lenses are attached to a FX-format digital SLR camera and zoom lenses are set at the maximum telephoto position.

Meant as a versatile, compact telephoto option for intermediate FX and DX-format photographers, the new and improved 70-300 mm is a great lens for both photographers and videographers looking to shoot sports, wildlife, candids, travel and other subjects at long distances.
