The OM System OM-1 Mark II, is the successor to the original OM-1 released back in 2022, and retains the hallmark features of its predecessor while incorporating a host of upgrades including the world’s first Live Graduated ND shooting function.
The OM-1 Mark II inherits the same 20-megapixel stacked BSI Live MOS micro four thirds sensor and TruePic X image processor as found on the original but introduces significant improvements in performance.
Perhaps the biggest and most exciting upgrade, is the introduction of the “world’s first” Live GND (Graduated ND) shooting function.
With Live GND enabled, users will be able to seamlessly adjust filter steps (GND2, GND4, or GND8) as well as types (Soft, Medium, or Hard) in real-time through the EVF or rear LCD to replicate the effects of a half ND filter, allowing for more accurate control of both brightness and darkness within an image.
Another notable improvement is the updated 5-axis in-body image stabilization system, boosting compensation up to 8.5 steps, further expanding opportunities for handheld shooting.
High-speed sequential shooting speeds haven’t changed, (up to 50 fps with full AF/AE and 120 fps with locked AF/AE), but thanks to the OM-1 Mark II’s enhanced memory and changes in buffer depths photographers will now be able to capture over 200 RAW frames at 120 fps, a considerable step up from the previous 90.
The OM-1 Mark II also utilizes deep learning AI Detection AF that recognizes a wide spectrum of subjects, including humans, animals, cars and more and tracking them within the frame, ensuring they remain in focus without any loss.
High Res Shot mode now allows photographers to capture 14-bit RAW files, up from 12-bit RAW files, offering three times the tonal range.
Built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions, the OM-1 Mark II boasts an IP53-class splash & dustproof design in addition to being able to withstand freezing temperatures down to -10°C.
Using user feedback from the original, the OM-1 Mark II features rubberized control dials with an improved tactile feel and response, making operation easier, even when wearing gloves and features improved grip surfaces and support for vertical video capture.
Additionally, the OM-1 Mark II supports UVC/UAC connections to PCs allowing it to be used as a webcam.
