Panasonic has announced a new modular box-style, full-frame mirrorless camera, the LUMIX BS1H featuring a 24.2-megapixel sensor and 6K 24p / 5.9K 30p 10-bit Unlimited Video Recording Capability.
It also provides 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K*1 HEVC video recording when using the image area equivalent to Super 35mm.
The 4:2:2 10-bit 4K30p is recordable in H.264 at its full area and the high-resolution data can also be used for creating 4K videos with higher image quality or for cropping images in 4K.
It features a OLPF (Optical Low Pass Filter) to suppress moire and false colour and Dual Native ISO (max ISO 51200) that combined with optimum signal processing by the Venus Engine to minimize noise generation by choosing the optimal circuit to use according to the sensitivity before gain processing.
Using the same colourimetry of their VariCam (such as the EVA1) lineup of cinema cameras, the BS1H features V-Log/V-Gamut capture to deliver a high dynamic range, broad colour spectrum and greater level of play when the images are put through post-production processes.
In addition to HDR (High Dynamic Range) video recording, the camera records video with a designated gamma curve compatible with ITU-R BT.2100.
Users can also choose Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) when recording in Photo Style.
Real-time subject detection with advanced deep learning technology allows users to set precise focus on the target subject such as humans and animals even if they are moving fast.
Variable Frame Rate (VFR) allows users record slow/quick video in C4K/4K (60 fps, maximum 2.5x slower in 24p) and FHD (180 fps, maximum 7.5x slower in 24p) with a minimum frame rate of 2 fps for quick motion video.
High Frame Rate (HFR) video with sound is also recordable even when using auto focus and there are a variety of effects available for producing a slow motion video through the post production process.
To support live streaming, the LUMIX BS1H provides an IP streaming function that can stream 4K 60p (50p) video in H.265. H.265 uses half the bitrate while keeping the image quality the same as H.264, providing 2x higher image quality at the same bitrate as H.264.
Streaming in ultra-high definition 4K is also possible at a lower bitrate even in cases where the bandwidth is not broad enough.
The Genlock IN (BNC) and Timecode IN/OUT (BNC) functions enable multi-angle synchronized video recording to create a scalable system using external monitors, rigs and gimbals.
Double SD Card slots are included for backup recording or relay recording.
When connected to LAN, the BS1H uses Power over Ethernet+ (PoE+) and allows users to control up to a maximum of 12 LUMIX BS1H cameras using Panasonic’s PC software LUMIX Tether for Multicam.
When using LUMIX S series lenses, Boost I.S.(Video) function (Image Stabilizer) is available and improved AF/AE control is available with LUMIX S Series lenses with O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) mounted.
