The Fujifilm X100V is the 5th iteration of their X100 series of fixed lens, mirrorless rangefinder style cameras, and boasts a number of upgrades over the previous X100F.
Fujifilm X100V Exterior Features
The X100 series features a classic look that harkens back their film cameras, and the X100V is no exception. The X100V features top and bottom plates crafted from single pieces of aluminum, finished with a beautiful satin coating, resulting in a look that is both elegant and functional.
Fixed Lens and Attachments
The X100V features a newly designed 23mm f/2.0 lens that Fujifilm says “has been enhanced for better resolution, lower distortion and improved close focus performance”. The new lens, maintains the same overall size and compatibility as the lens found on the X100F meaning you can continue to use the existing WCL/TCL lens attachments if you so choose.
The WCL/TCL (Wide Conversion Lens/Tele Conversion Lens) attachments simply screw on to the lens, providing equivalent viewing angles of 35mm (WCL) and 50mm (TCL) respectively.
Weatherproofing
In a first for the X100 series, the X100V features a weather-resistant design that when used in conjunction with the optional AR-X100 adapter ring and the PRF-49 protection filter provides almost 100% protection from the elements.
Other Exterior Features
Control Dials – The top mounted, analog inspired controls found on the X100V are in completely tune with the retro styling of the camera and allow for control of exposure compensation and shutter speed.
In another first for the X100 Series, the X100V features a two-way tilting LCD touchscreen that folds up flush with the back of the camera and is a definite improvement over the previous models fixed touchscreen.
Hybrid Viewfinder – OVF/EVF/ERF
The X100V also features an improved hybrid viewfinder that quickly allows you to switch between the camera’s 0.52x magnification optical viewfinder (OVF) or the 3.69M dot OLED electronic viewfinder.
The Optical Viewfinder (OVF) offers 95% frame coverage, and provides parallax-correcting frame lines, giving you an uninterrupted view of the world as it appears in front of you.
The Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) uses a bright 1500cd/㎡ high-luminance panel, that clearly shows images, and helps both highlight and shadow detail visible even in bright conditions.
The Electronic Rangefinder (ERF) Function blends the OVF and EVF together which allows you to view an electronic preview of the scene in the bottom right corner, while simultaneously framing the image using the OVF.
Fujifilm X100V Internal Features
Upgraded Sensor & Processor
At the heart of X100V is Fujifilm’s latest X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X-Processor 4 combination that features a 26.1MP sensor that utilizes a back-illuminated design to maximize quality and dynamic range and unique colour filter array that controls moiré and false colour without the need for an optical low pass filter.
The quad-core X-Processor 4 ensures that images are quickly and smoothly processed, and uses a new algorithm and phase-detection pixels to boost AF performance and offer enhanced face and eye detection even in low light conditions down to -5EV!
The X100V also offers continuous shoot speeds of up to 11fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30fps when using the electronic shutter.
Video Features
If video’s your thing, the X100V is capable of recording 4K video up to 30 fps as well as 120 fps at 1080p to capture super slow motion effects and can also record 10-bit, 4:2:2 colour externally via the HDMI port to an external recorder.
As with stills, Fujifilm’s extensive list of Film Simulations and Effects can also be applied to video footage.
Other Improvements/Features
- Improved battery life (will capture up to 350 frames per charge when using the EVF or up to 460 frames while using the OVF)
- USB Type-C port
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
- SD Card slot
