Say hello to the new Zoom H1 XLR Handy Recorder

With the launch of the new Zoom H1 XLR Handy Recorder, content creators, podcasters and filmmakers now have an incredibly versatile, super-easy-to-use option for recording high-quality audio to accompany their video on the go.

Zoom offers a wide variety of products in its Handy lineup of portable recorders, from ultra-affordable models to some in the upper midrange. The new H1 XLR lands about halfway on that spectrum, packing some great features into its compact lightweight body.

The H1 XLR features multiple inputs and an intuitive interface.

Living up to its “handy” moniker, it gives creators the freedom to capture pristine audio with vast dynamic range directly to an SD card from a variety of sources via multiple input options – all without a gains knob or the need to set gains.

Your can use the two locking XLR/TRS combo inputs at the top of the unit to record from microphones, stereo board feeds and more. You also have a 3.5mm stereo input to record with on-camera mics, lavaliers and other sources. And you can even connect the H1 XLR to a mobile device using the USB-C port to record audio directly to a smartphone video.

Connected to a PC or Mac, iOS or Android device, the H1 XLR can also serve as an audio interface while simultaneously recording to the SD card.

But perhaps the best feature of all is its 32-bit float recording capacity, which accounts for the incredible audio quality captured with such high dynamic range. This allows you to record with confidence in unpredictable environments – including crowded, noisy scenarios such as concerts and film sets – preserving wide-ranging acoustic details, both quiet and loud, while eliminating clipped and distorted distractions.

Zoom is a pioneer in the implementation of 32 bit-float in portable audio recording. Along with its ability to deliver consistently clean, clear audio, the H1 XLR also offers a simplified setup and robust editing flexibility. The high-contrast OLED screen is another welcome feature: use it to navigate easily through the H1 XLR’s streamlined interface, and keep an eye on the dynamic real-time waveform display while recording your audio in a wide range of real-world applications.
