In a world where camera designs often adhere to traditional conventions, the Sigma BF emerges as a breath of fresh air with a beautiful, minimalist design that strips away unnecessary features, offering photographers a unique approach to capturing images.
A Bold Design Choice
Visually speaking, the Sigma BF represents a pretty radical departure from the conventional camera designs from other brands.
Crafted from a single block of aluminium, the BF boasts a robust and sleek exterior that is both visually striking and functional, and the unique unibody design not only helps to enhance durability, but also provides a premium feel that photographers will appreciate.
Minimalist Aesthetic
With just four physical controls, including a dial and three haptic feedback buttons, and a large LCD screen, Sigma hopes that minimalist design will help to encourage users to focus on their photography rather than getting lost in a maze of settings.
Sensor and Autofocus
At the heart of the camera lies the 24.6-megapixel (35 mm full-frame equivalent) back-illuminated CMOS sensor that is paired with a hybrid autofocus system that utilizes both phase detection and contrast detection and a native ISO range of 100 to 102,400, expandable down to 6, 12, 25, and 50.
The electronic shutter (no mechanical option) offers shutter speeds from 1/25600 – 30 seconds as well as a Bulb setting (up to 5 minutes).
Intuitive User Interface
The Sigma BF introduces a new information structure that Sigma says is markedly different from conventional digital cameras.
Live view and 5 key shooting settings, such as shutter speed, ISO, EV compensation and colour mode are easily accessible via the live view screen, while other options and settings are accessible via three additional sub menu screens.
Internal Storage and Connectivity
The BF lacks the ability to use physical memory cards, instead, relying on its more than ample 230GB internal storage capacity, capable of storing more than 14 000 JPEG files, 4 300 Lossless compression RAW images or up to 2.5 hours of video.
Additionally, the side located USB-C port allows for fast data transfer and quick charging.
Video Capabilities
For those interested in videography, the Sigma BF supports up to 6K video recording at up to 29.97 frames per second, with L-Log support for enhanced colour grading flexibility.
Colour Modes
There are a total of 13 different colour modes to choose from, including Standard, Rich, Calm, Powder Blue, Warm Gold, Teal, Orange, FOV Classic Blue, FOV Classic Yellow, Forest Green, Sunset Red, Cinema, 709 Look, and Monochrome, allowing photographers to achieve specific aesthetics directly in-camera without the need for extensive post-processing.
Canadian Pricing and Availability
Finally, when it becomes available, the Sigma BF camera will be available in silver and black versions and while Canadian pricing and availability isn’t available at the time of publishing (February 2025) we will update this post once we have more information.
