The new Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN lens is the latest addition to their all-metal I Series Contemporary lens line which also includes the 24mm f/2 DG DN, 35mm f/3.5 DG DN, 45mm f/2.8 DG DN, 65mm f/2 DG DN and 90mm f/2.8 DG DN lenses.
As with all of the I Series lenses, the 20mm will be available in both Sony E-Mount and Leica/Panasonic L-Mount versions.
Sigma bills the 20mm f/2 DG DN as a full-frame “premium compact prime” lens, “that combines superb optical performance with a level of compactness that is suited to smaller and lighter modern mirrorless cameras”.
Even with the wider aperture and wider field of view, Sigma has been able to keep the lens at almost the same size and weight as the 24mm f/2 DG DN lens.

As mentioned, the 20mm features an all-metal construction, a metal hood and the signature metal lens cap that is common to all of the I Series lenses.
There are 13 lens elements in 11 groups including, three aspherical elements as well as one FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) element and one SLD (Special Low Dispersion) element.
Both the FLD and SLD elements are designed to supress optical aberrations, which according to Sigma produces sharper and clearer image quality from corner to corner.
The lens also boasts a 94.5-degree angle of view, a minimum focusing distance of 22.1cm (8.7in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6:7.
It also features a nine-bladed diaphragm, 62mm front filter thread size and a manual aperture ring.
Finally, the lens features and internal focusing system, powered by a stepping motor, and fully compatible with high-speed autofocus modes.
