This is a genuine workhorse of a lens that can be deployed in a vast range of applications, from portraits to landscapes. Bucking the conventional 24-70mm standard zoom range, its copious span encompasses the 85mm sweet spot that’s perfect for portraiture. You can count on the 12 rounded diaphragm blades to deliver exceptional bokeh and give those portraits a nice 3D effect, and that wide maximum aperture provides you an extra measure of leeway when shooting in tricky low-light conditions.
The Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art also functions as telephoto macro lens and, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1 at the tele-end, lends itself handily to close-up photography.
Constructed from lightweight magnesium to enhance portability, the rugged dust- and splash-resistant barrel sports an aperture ring, an aperture ring click switch and an aperture ring lock switch. It’s also equipped with an AFL button for vertical position use and a zoom-lock switch to prevent the lens from accidentally extending when carried. The barrel houses 18 elements in 13 groups, including five aspherical lens elements, and the inner focus system features a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) to ensure fast but quiet focusing.
