The Canon XF605 UHD 4K HDR Pro Camcorder combines high-resolution capture with a mobile workflow, making it perfect for ENG (electronic news-gathering), sports, entertainment and documentary applications.
The XF605 features a 13.4 Megapixel, 1″ type CMOS sensor capable of capturing UHD 4K HDR footage at up to 60p in 4:2:2 10-bit that is combined with Canon’s DIGIC DV 7 processor allowing for high sensitivity of up to 2000 lux at f/12 in dimly lit locations.
UHD 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit footage can be captured in both All-I and Long-GOP XF-AVC and MP4 H.264/H.265 formats and can be captured simultaneously in different resolutions, formats and colour sampling to an SD card(s) placed in one or both of the available card slots.
Output can also be sent simultaneously over SDI and HDMI with the ability to choose different resolutions for each output.
High-speed capture at 1080 120p is also available to capture slow motion footage.
The XF605 offers plenty of Canon cinema colour matrix choices including, Canon Log 3, HLG and PQ as well as eight predefined and eleven user defined picture profiles including:
- C1: BT.709 Normal
- C2: BT.709 Wide DR

The XF605 is capable of simultaneous, timecode matched, audio recording, allowing users to record visuals and audio to one card and smaller audio WAV files to the other even when capturing footage at higher frame rates.
Audio can be recorded at either 2-Channel 16-bit 48 kHz AAC via the 3.5mm stereo mic input, or 4-Channel 24-bit 48 kHz LPCM via the dual 4-channel XLR inputs.
The fixed lens boasts a 15x optical/30x (25.5-382.5mm 35mm equivalent) digital zoom (with separate focus, iris and zoom controls) the XF605 is more than capable of capturing the action both near and far and the 9-blade iris will provide a pleasing bokeh effect when called for.
Standard mode just uses optical IS, while the Dynamic mode uses a combination of Optical IS and Electronic IS allowing for smoother motion shots.
The XF605’s advanced Dual Pixel autofocus features both Eye AF which locks on a subjects eyes and EOS iTR AF X (head detection), which continues to track a subject even if they turn their head to the side or away from the camera.
There are also four levels of built-in neutral density (ND) filters, clear, 1/4th, 1/16th and 1/64th.
The 3.45-inch, 2.76 million dots, fold-out LCD touchscreen and menu system is very similar to that found on the EOS C70 Cinema Camera, providing access to various functions and the ability make setting changes without having to dive into the menus.
