Gone are the days when going on a photo expedition meant months of travel, sleeping in uncomfortable tents in hostile environments and practically needing a small army of people to manage all of the gear. Thankfully, the Fogo Island Inn Photo Expedition is a far more luxurious experience…
The Fogo Island 5-day Photo Expedition will take you to a place that has been labelled as one of the “Four Corners of the Earth”. Located off the north-east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador and born of fire and stone, Fogo Island with it’s 400,000,000 year old windswept vistas, and iceberg laden waters has long been a magnet for photographers and nature lovers alike.
The photo workshop will be comprised of lectures and presentations by the instructor on elements of light, composition, form and textures as it relates to the architecture of both the island and the of the buildings built upon these rocky shores.
Evenings will be spent reviewing student’s work in a friendly open atmosphere of collaboration, and intensive encouragement in how best to improve your work and push the boundaries of the craft of photography and learning to truly “see”.
All skill levels of photographers, light seekers and lovers of exploration are encouraged to join me in what will be an incredible journey to the “Edge” and beyond. Bring your camera, your love of place and culture openness to a truly unique life experience.

Fogo Island Inn sits on an island, off an island, off of one of the four corners of the earth. Every one of the 29 one-of-a-kind guest suites has dramatic floor to ceiling windows that open onto the wildest and most powerful ocean on the planet, located less than 100 feet from your organic natural-fibre bed. Most suites have a wood-burning stove; all are furnished with quiet luxuries and hand-made furniture and quilts – a stimulating relief from the numbing uniformity of modern times. The award-winning inn is a community asset and 100% of operating surpluses are reinvested into the community.
Chef McDonald says: “Back in the day, if you didn’t have a small farm, a garden, a root cellar and a store of preserves here, you starved,” He scours all corners of the 240-square-kilometre island for unexpected treasures. “Ninety-five percent of what’s in our kitchen, I know the hands that touched it, including my own.”
Sounds amazing so far right? Now for the really important details…
